In a December 23, 1783 letter, George Washington wrote the following:

I consider it an indispensable duty to close this last act to my official life by commending the interest of our dearest country to the protection of Almighty God and those who have the superintendence of them to His Holy Keeping.

Doesn’t really sound like the words of a mere Deist, does it.
