Would Somebody…..?
I don’t know about you, but at my house, it used to be if I couched a request, “Would somebody come here/get the door/turn off the over/start the coffee/go get the dog out of the garbage….” Then one of two things happened.
NOBODY did anything, or, if they were home and heard me, it would be the HG or Jenny who acted the role of ‘Somebody.’ I joked that they really had been named ‘Somebody’ on their birth certificates, but I learned to put names to my requests.
In EMT training they tell you (or should) never to say, “Would somebody call 9-1-1,” but rather to point out a specific person in the crowd (‘You in the red hat!) and ask them to make that emergency call.
Here’s why:
Basic chorus:
Everybody said that anybody could do
the important things somebody should do.
Everybody knows that anybody could do
All that good things that nobody did.
Do you have a ‘Somebody’ at your house? Or do you live with a house full of Anybodies, Nobodies, and Not Mes?
