Homelessness in the U.S.

I remember when one of our Filipino friends found out there were homeless people in the U.S. She was surprised.
Homelessness in the U.S. is a weird problem, and it’s a bit different from homelessness in the PHilippines.

But here are a couple interesting facts.

About 2/3 of our homeless live in shelters.

Just over 1/3 of the homeless in America are sleeping rough- on the street, in tents in parking lots or abandoned lots, on side-walks, in places that aren’t meant to be habitations.

And half of those unsheltered homeless live in California.
To look at those stats another way, of cities with the largest unsheltered homeless population, four of them are in California. The fifth is Seattle, Washington.
