We talked about staking out a square yard of wetland area and observing it several times a year. One of the things you can look for is animal tracks.

Sketch them. Measure them. Make plaster casts. Count the toes. Look for marks of claws or toenails in the tracks, or are these hooves and not clawed prints. Meaasre the distance between tracks. More about how to identify tracks here.
