Is it just me?

Don’t eat food if a fly lands on it, as they carry more dangerous bacteria than previously thought, warn scientists...

My first thought when I read this wasn’t “Oh, no, throw out more food!” It was, “Wow. The human immune system is even more incredible than I realized.”

My second thought is, “Who can afford to throw out the food for a couple flies at a picnic?”

My first thought was–another alarmist article to try to make us freak out about germs. Yeah, guys, we have been eating food that flies are landing on for millenia. And yet, there are billions of us on the planet. God did indeed make us with marvelous immune systems!

“Flies in urban areas were found to carry more bacteria than the countryside leading scientists to suggest avoiding city parks for a picnic, and eating food into more rural locations.””It might be better to have that picnic in the woods, far away from urban environments, not a central park.”–these are the sentences that bugged me–do they really think that everyone who would picnic in the city can afford to take a trip out to the country just to have lunch? Or that it’s even a reasonable thing to suggest based on such a small chance that a city fly could make them sick as opposed to the many health benefits of getting outside in the sunshine in a relaxed environment to have lunch? Humbugs!
