Today’s Project

2015-02-07 16.24.50(Really, it’s more like this year’s project, as I generally don’t do anything but fold laundry, menu plan, cook, and take care of the Cherub).

Project: Emptying out a cupboard that has stored books and toys for several years, consolidating those books (picture books) so they all fit in one bookcase instead of 3. Eventually, I want to use this now empty cupboard for a linen closet.

I didn’t mean for this to be today’s project. I meant to spent about an hour on it, just shifting books and getting rid of just enough to get them all out of this cupboard.

But then I found game pieces, and books that didn’t go there, and toys that belong in another room, and I started throwing things away and moving this, and what with one thing and another, I’ve ended up empting out a basket of stuff from another room, filling up a garbage bag of yard sale stuff for this spring, half filing another garbage bag of, well, garbage, and I have a stack of toys that don’t yet have all their parts going to my room (like the ring stacker that’s missing two rings, and the puzzle block set missing just one block and I know it’s here somewhere).

Now I am going through about 50 picture books and pulling their titles off of my library thing, and checking at Amazon to see if they have a reasonable resale value and so far, my hour long job has only taken about four hours.

If you give a mouse a muffin and all that.

Update: Six hours.  I finished the books.  I even put things away that I had piled up as I found this n’ that which belonged here ‘n there.

And then- cupboard empty and ready to move…. noticed for the first time that the spot where I wanted to move it…. has a heating vent in the floor.

I’m pouting and eating pizza.

Next project, moving the heating vent.

No, I really do sympathise. It’s infuriating to have a beautiful plan thwarted by unforeseen and intractable reality.

But I have every confidence you will find a solution. And at least you don’t have to put everything back!

Yeah, this is why I have such a hard time even getting started on projects!

Yep. This is how I operate.

And I had pizza for supper, also. 😉
