”Did you pay full price for that?” This came as a question from a friend when she saw my new purse last week. My first two thoughts: Me, pay full price for anything?? and: what IS the full price for this?
See, I got it at a thrift shop in town for under $4. It’s a Sherpani bag, which was pretty much Greek to me ’til recently. Their bags are not cheap new. We’re talking $30-$80 on their website. Knock me over w’ a feather…
I got it because I loved how sturdy it looked; I loved all its compartments; and I loved the bright flowers hiding under the brown and orange exterior.
I also love the capacious interior; please tell me I’m not the only mother who stuffs disposable diapers in her purse right alongside her make up bag.
And, yes, I loved the price. I am one of those (potentially annoying) people who believes that it is almost always possible to find valuable things in thrift shops. Yes, it might take a bit of hunting; yes, you might have to dig through some less than appealing items to find the fun ones, but the cool things ARE there.
And it is in that spirit I’d like to propose to CR readers a new weekly feature ~ Thrifty Tuesdays! Every Tuesday I’ll share photos and a description of something cool I’ve found at our thrift shops… we’ll have occasional give aways based on thrift shop finds… and, the bit I’m most excited about: I would LOVE to make this a linky feature, to see what you all have found too. It can be a virtual show and tell.
Is this something, o best beloveds, that you might be interested in? Do join in the fun, please ~ and spread the word to your other thrift shop loving friends!

Absolutely! I love shopping the thrift stores! So much great stuff to be found. As long as I’m strict with myself to not buy everything just because it’s such a great deal. I either need it for a specific purpose, or am confident I could sell it online or something. (I’ve never tried, but it’s possible) Many of our books came from a thrift store, maybe half of my wardrobe, a few really pretty coffee mugs and vintage drinking glasses with Star Wars scenes on them (for my husband)
Selling thrift shop finds online is something I’ve recently re-started doing, Ashley, and it’s been *so* much fun.
After I’ve got another month or so of experience tucked under my (virtual) belt, I want to write a post about ways to succeed at doing it. I’ve already had some exciting successes and am excited for more.
And so glad you like the idea of the feature too! If you’ve got a blog, mark next Tuesday on your calendar in preparation for the link-ups!
I love this idea!
I also wanted to mention that I have carried and loved Sherpani bags for years. My first one was a messenger-style that I used as a diaper bag, and the baby in those diapers is now in third grade. They hold up to lots of wear and tear and even though that first one is a bit dingy now, all the zippers and snaps still function perfectly. What a great find!
