The Circle of Life

The four boys are going outside to sled, and all four boys have had a growth spurt.  The FYB spent some time this morning going through Blynken and Nod’s last winter’s clothes.  We keep them so often that we buy clothes for them and the thrift shop and keep them here, as that way the boys can get as messy and dirty as they like without upsetting their mum.  It makes life more pleasant all around.

Anyway, after rummaging about he found that (from left to right, or smallest to biggest):

The Dread Pirate Grasshopper, age 3,  is wearing Nod’s snowsuit from last year.

Nod, age 6, is wearing Blynken’s snowsuit from last year.

Blynken, nearly 9, wears the FYB’s old Carharts.

The FYB, 14,  wears his father’s Carharts, although they are about four inches too short.

Four Boys in Snowsuits

The FYG and I are wearing slippers and sweaters and waiting impatiently for the boys to go outside so we finish up the last of the Russian tea and crescent rolls.  We are too clever to take any photographic evidence for the Boys to come across later.

It was a good day to be outside here too–Dollygirl spent awhile out on our hill with a sled.

It’s a brand name for an insulated working overall or coverall (they also make plain ppants and jackets) popular with working men who have to be outdoors in the cold midwestern winters- mechanics, farmers, hunters, woodsmen, the genuine laboring class. They are heavy duty, a sort of canvas cloth cover- not the plasticky, slippery, and noisy stuff that snowpants are usually made of. They last for ages, too. They are water resistant, but not totally waterproof. Blynken and the Boy are wearing Carharts.

You can buy them unlined, too, if you just want some seriously heavy duty protection for your regular clothes while you work, but don’t need the warmth of the insulated kind.

Ok, got it. Around here you buy that stuff at the TSC store–it’s where the farmers go to buy their coveralls, and the farm kids go to buy toy tractors. And it turns out they do sell Carhartts.

But what I want to find is Carharts or something like them, but for much less than 60 bucks or so.=)
