Less than three weeks to go ’til Thanksgiving, folks! Those who have been with the CR for a while know that I am a stickler for not listening ’til Christmas music until after Thanksgiving. Why? Because Thanksgiving is its own separate, special holiday… a celebration of harvest, autumn, and God’s provision.
Christmas music is good stuff; I understand its allure, but there’s also some excellent Thanksgiving specific listening material out there too. Here are a few that I think look particularly appealing.
1) Going Home: Thanksgiving Music for Celtic Harp ~ a lovely compilation of hymns, traditional autumn tunes, and Celtic pieces.
2) Short Stories for Thanksgiving, performed by Grant Raymond Barrett ~ Seven vintage stories and poems (ranging from Bede to Old Man Rabbit’s Thanksgiving to a 1903 poem on Thanksgiving, with several other treats). This would be a fun one for the family to listen to as a countdown the final week before Thanksgiving.
3) We Gather Together: 14 Thanksgiving Hymns ~ Bluegrass version of several thanksgiving hymns. What’s not to love? Beautiful stuff.
4) American Angels: Songs of Hope, Redemption & Glory by Anonymous 4 ~ gorgeous hymns, done in sacred harp a capella style (which pleases those of the CR very much indeed).
I’d love to hear some of your favorites!

OOOHH!! I have been wanting Thanksgiving music my whole life! Thank you, thank you!
Maybe George Winston, Autumn?
Thank you! I only knew of one of these. I like “A Thanksgiving of American Folk Hymns” from the BYU choirs/orchestra:

Going Home is just beautiful. Thank you for the recommendation. Because I had a $5 for Amazon from Swagbucks & a deal I had gotten from the Kindle deals, I paid nothing out of my pocket for it! Hurray!
